Our Purpose
Empowering youth to reach their Potential
At Crescendo, we engage rangatahi (youth) through sound to build positive pathways. Through our free music production and wellbeing programmes, we connect with youth from all walks of life, empowering them to reach their full potential.
Our free music production programmes give students hands-on skills and industry knowledge in music, audio engineering, songwriting, live sound, and performance, while also focusing on health and wellbeing. Our music mentoring connects rangatahi with creative industry professionals, inspiring them to develop their talents and pursue positive pathways in education, employment, and internships.
Crescendo is a purpose-driven social enterprise, but we also collaborate with clients on commercial music and audio projects. All commercial revenue goes towards funding our free music mentoring programmes.

Our Vision

Connecting rangatahi through music to change lives.

Sonny's story
Since I was about 12, rap has been my genre. I was making music at home for about 3 years before I started Crescendo’s Pathways programme.
My tutors at Crescendo were incredibly influential - reigniting my passion for making music and with skills that helped with the creation of my music.
I will be using a lot of hidden gems I learnt from Crescendo, like different presets and eq tips, etc. But more importantly I’ll be implementing a weekly reflection/checking in on myself which is something I learnt through Crescendo.
Helena's story
I joined Crescendo at a tough time where my health issues had meant I couldn’t work and I spent a lot of time having surgeries.
My interest is mainly random hip-hop music, and I loved finding out all the little intricacies of music and having professionals around me to help me understand the stuff I don’t.
This course has been mean - it’s helped me really identify myself and meet some real cool people. I already actively use the skills I have learnt here such as self-love etc. and because my confidence has improved, I notice I have less anxiety than I used to.
Our Values
Our Pou, or our values, are what anchor us. They are the constant that defines Crescendo and reminds us of who and what we are and always strive to be.
Manaakitanga
A fundamental principle of Tikanga Māori, manaakitanga is about respecting the mana of others through care, nurturing and fostering positive relationships.

Whanaungatanga
Whanaungatanga is the state of being or becoming a family unit and speaks to the interconnectedness and sense of belonging that comes with shared experiences with an emphasis on building relationships.

Āhurutanga
Āhurutanga is the act of providing a safe, supportive and nurturing environment, creating a sense of belonging and security. It links in with both whanaungatanga and manaakitanga in that manaakitanga enables āhurutanga to happen, which creates a safe environment where whanaungatanga can take place.
